green_apple: (bound to catch the heavens if they fall)
Was re-re-re-re-n-watching Star Trek, as one does, with some friends and one of them made a comment along the lines of Uhura getting in the way for the Spock-Kirk dynamics to fully develop. Like, properly. And, well, you can imagine how well that one went over with me.

I mean, if we're gonna snuff Uhura for being in the way of Kirk becoming the Ultimate One and Only Emotional Link Spock has left in the Entire Universe (be it utter BFFness, The Mother of All Slash Under the Sun or simple OTP), then shouldn't we, being fair, also snuff McCoy for the very same reason? It doesn't gel with me, how it can be flagged as a feminist statement that she's stronger standing alone in her island, while the other three are off enjoying each other's company.

Why can't she be the third wheel (because I'm keeping my focus on the Kirk-Spock side of things here) of a perfectly balanced tricycle? Better yet, why can we not turn that tricycle into a four-by-four truck fitted for every terrain and every possible circumstance?

Wouldn't that create better possibilities for growth for all parties involved? Why would some have to be diminished, stuffed in the background, or downright extracted from the equation for others to fully and properly develop to their maximum?

Please do note that these are heat-of-the-moment half-formed thoughts, and the only reason why I'm not saving this entry for when I have actually shaped things into a more fit for society form is because my time is very limited these days, and I know myself well enough when it comes to this type of things to know that if I don't get it out now, it will never see the light of day.

Mostly I'm airing thoughts. Do you have any input?

Thing the First. Does anyone know whether the fic where the Doctor and River Tam met has been written? And if so, could that anyone, carrier of knowledge and jolly good news, point me in it's direction? Thank you!

Thing the Second. Um. Anna, Zo, dear ladies, would I be putting too much of a burden on your shoulders if I asked you to proof-read the other's fic? You know, the one with the visual aid. I'm mostly done with them, but I'd like a second opinion before officially sending them home to their expectant mommies. Also thank you!

This all.

Wait. No. I think it is important I let you know that, a few days ago, I saved something on my delicious account that was not ST fic. Or ST related in any form or shape. I too am proud. Of course, that was ages ago and well, times change. But that is not the point, the point is that, despite trying very admirably, ST has not managed to completely consume my brain and existence. Yet.

I may or may not have spent the entire afternoon neglecting my duties procrastinating not writing stuff reading ST fic. And, um, most of it may or may not have been Sulu centric. It's not confirmed yet, the jury's still out (or refusing to come back in because they, as I, may be kind of embarrassed by the undeniably unanimously reached verdict), but I may or hey, may not, have a thing for Sulu's unrelenting awesomeness.

Yeah.

Okay, this is me being all helpful and in my quest to make the world a better place.

The Encounter by [profile] cole_chan  deserves your total and undivided attention for the painfully short time it takes to read. Because it is lovely, adorable and utterly fangirling material. Even if you don't like/know of/fangirl to death one fandom or the other, or hey, either, you still should go and read simply for the pleasure of it. There. Um, it's a Doctor Who/Star Trek reboot crossover that makes so much sense and will leave you with the greatest starry eyes ever.

Also, went skiing, took a truckload of pictures, came home to a crashed computer, fixed the computer (because I rock, and am fearless and also desperate) by myself, uploaded the pictures and proceeded to curse a couple car window reflexions (we were moving, it was cold, I was not allowed to be wee bit happy for a wee bit second because the step father likes to castrate me like that), called my brother and gloated about how I'm basking in the snow while he's slowly cooking in his own sweat, he kindly reminded me he does not like snow as I do, I still gloated.

Um. Pics to come, and also those little stories I owe Anna and Zo.

Much love, bbs. Which you can tell by my effusive reccing of (ha!) yet another ST fic. I'll go back to Spn and J2, promise. It's just, you guys, ST is soooo shinyyyyy! and snarky.

No, really. Take a guess.

Well, ST of course.

RECS! Because I'm generous and stuff. Also, I feel my life is more complete after having read this stuff, which means I'm likely to smile more often simply by remembering bits and ends. Now, assume one of this memories jumps on the passenger seat while I'm walking down the street, assume now that the inevitable smile that takes over my face, somehow, gets passed on to somebody else and, for a little while at least, their day is that tad bit brighter.  Isn't that a nice assumption?

MY OBSESSIVE ST FIC READING COMES FROM ENTIRELY ALTRUISTIC PURPOSES. I'M MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE READING ABOUT JIM KIRK'S CREW HIJINKING IT IN SPACE.

Y'all bow to me, now.

The following are PG, so, safe for everyone and their dogs.

Only the Good Die Young by [livejournal.com profile] _seven_crows  Chekov being adorable. Also, Kirk makes sound effects, there are discussions about naked singularities, Spock takes on responsibilities that may not be quite as suited to him as originally thought. Much fun is had by all. Unless you're Chekov.

Four Consequences of the Unexpected and Unlikely Friendship Between James T. Kirk and Nyota Uhura
by[livejournal.com profile] trisfic  Laugh. Out. Loud. And then some. It is slightly terrifying because, zomg should this two ever become this awesomely BFFs the galaxy should tremble. There's some poetry involved, as well.

The Enterprise: of Warp Barriers, Captains, and Other Scary Things by [livejournal.com profile] karanguni  some more Chekov being generally awesome, and Kirk being all-around trouble. Also featuring Spock figuring stuff out in a heart beat and being appropriately stoic about it.

A Fucking Space Opera (or Six Characters Who Didn't Board The USS Enterprise)
by [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis  Fandoms crossover ahoy! Sam and Dean are in it too.

Captain Awesome and His Amazing Enterprise by [livejournal.com profile] vaingirlfic  they are in a rock band. High School AU but that's not the point, the point is: THEY ARE IN A BAND. Surprisingly? not as cracky as the premise suggests. Still, tremendously hilarious because, get this, they are in a band.

People Who Repair Quantums, or Five Planets the Enterprise Never Visited by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes  This one is possibly my favorite so far. Every single piece is perfect and also? it features fandoms that I've been known to fangirl pretty hardcore. Kind of taylor-made, if you will.

Um. This is it. For now. I have to go categorize and track down put in one single place all the others I want the world to see (again, most likely). If you've already read these ones, well then go read again because they are just. That. Good.
