Question to Fellow Fandomers

Dear Fandom:

It has come to my attention that a whole lot of people, in a whole lot of occasions, toss around the phrase "I want my show back, you know, the one about two brothers on a road trip" the italicized text is mine and does not reflect the exact wording of anything I've read, it does however reflect the sentiment. Which is where my puzzled face comes into play, because this is what I don't get, what do you mean by this? What is it that you see it's missing? Was it ever there or is it more something along the lines of: "this is what I'd like to see happen"?

I am honestly curious.

Love, Confused Girl.

What they mean is like back in season one. There was the overall arc of finding John, but the show really revolved around them REALLY AND TRULY looking for a job from town to town and that has slowly diminished to where we are now. You still have the MOTW episodes (like the wishing well and Monster Movie). I understand where they're coming from. It's been VERY heavy on the myth so far, but that's going to slow down dramatically since we're pretty much all but confirmed as to having a fifth season, so Kripke said he can slow down now.

Oh, man. I love how other people's mind don't work like mine! Yeah, I supposed there was a certain component to that in there, the majority of the posts I read, though, were primarily placed in a Winchesters/Outside world context, and so I was wondering if they EVER actually hunted just for hunting.

But yeah, the MOTW format is tremendously missed as well. I personally like it better the way it is now, there's a sense of purpose and while I did enjoy the basic philosophical differences between Sam and Dean that made up most of S1's drama arc, as opposed to the secret keeping from these days, I do understand how this would be the way the relationship evolved and why would secrets be what keeps them emotionally distant creating the drama fodder.

And I may have derailed a bit from your comment...

Oh HAI! Are you online or coming online? *sigh* I CANNOT WRITE SO JENSEN ACKLES KNOCKED ME UP WITH TWINS ON THE SIMS 2!!

Yeah, there's that too. Season One it was just the brothers in their own world.

I do have to agree with some though. Kripke said we'd never get that Love Interest that rides around in the back of the Impala with the boys... when Ruby is pretty much becoming that.

Well. I have now...

And yeah, I agree with it. I think Kripke is a creator we can trust, in major arc themes anyway, and I usually forgive his faux-passes more easily because of that. He's got a vision and an idea, he's not gonna extend things indefinitely beyond what makes sense. I respect that. And so I let him have at it.
