Was re-re-re-re-n-watching Star Trek, as one does, with some friends and one of them made a comment along the lines of Uhura getting in the way for the Spock-Kirk dynamics to fully develop. Like, properly. And, well, you can imagine how well that one went over with me.

I mean, if we're gonna snuff Uhura for being in the way of Kirk becoming the Ultimate One and Only Emotional Link Spock has left in the Entire Universe (be it utter BFFness, The Mother of All Slash Under the Sun or simple OTP), then shouldn't we, being fair, also snuff McCoy for the very same reason? It doesn't gel with me, how it can be flagged as a feminist statement that she's stronger standing alone in her island, while the other three are off enjoying each other's company.

Why can't she be the third wheel (because I'm keeping my focus on the Kirk-Spock side of things here) of a perfectly balanced tricycle? Better yet, why can we not turn that tricycle into a four-by-four truck fitted for every terrain and every possible circumstance?

Wouldn't that create better possibilities for growth for all parties involved? Why would some have to be diminished, stuffed in the background, or downright extracted from the equation for others to fully and properly develop to their maximum?

Please do note that these are heat-of-the-moment half-formed thoughts, and the only reason why I'm not saving this entry for when I have actually shaped things into a more fit for society form is because my time is very limited these days, and I know myself well enough when it comes to this type of things to know that if I don't get it out now, it will never see the light of day.

Mostly I'm airing thoughts. Do you have any input?

I may or may not have spent the entire afternoon neglecting my duties procrastinating not writing stuff reading ST fic. And, um, most of it may or may not have been Sulu centric. It's not confirmed yet, the jury's still out (or refusing to come back in because they, as I, may be kind of embarrassed by the undeniably unanimously reached verdict), but I may or hey, may not, have a thing for Sulu's unrelenting awesomeness.

Yeah.

RECS! Because I'm generous and stuff. Also, I feel my life is more complete after having read this stuff, which means I'm likely to smile more often simply by remembering bits and ends. Now, assume one of this memories jumps on the passenger seat while I'm walking down the street, assume now that the inevitable smile that takes over my face, somehow, gets passed on to somebody else and, for a little while at least, their day is that tad bit brighter.  Isn't that a nice assumption?

A Fucking Space Opera (or Six Characters Who Didn't Board The USS Enterprise) by oxoniensis  Fandoms crossover ahoy! Sam and Dean are in it too.

Captain Awesome and His Amazing Enterprise by vaingirlfic  they are in a rock band. High School AU but that's not the point, the point is: THEY ARE IN A BAND. Surprisingly? not as cracky as the premise suggests. Still, tremendously hilarious because, get this, they are in a band.

People Who Repair Quantums, or Five Planets the Enterprise Never Visited by ignipes  This one is possibly my favorite so far. Every single piece is perfect and also? it features fandoms that I've been known to fangirl pretty hardcore. Kind of taylor-made, if you will.

Um. This is it. For now. I have to go categorize and track down put in one single place all the others I want the world to see (again, most likely). If you've already read these ones, well then go read again because they are just. That. Good.
