I came in here with the intention of updating things on my gratitude project, mostly. And then I saw this and now I'm crying.
I had no idea and I knew about it. Still, knowing shit is happening around us at terrible speed and in terrible quantities is never as devastating as hearing the people who suffer said shit call for help. Seeing the need for help.
Yes, this is the condition of Pakistan at the moment.
Sometimes our own willful ignorance is staggering. And disgusting.
And this embarrassment to the human species is still planning on going through with his plan to burn a Qur'an, because our tragedy far outweighs that of the rest of the entire world and it is our God-given right, if not duty, to show the world the error of their ways (namely, not being us).
"His actions most likely would be protected by the First Amendment's right to free speech. The U.S. Supreme Court has made clear in several landmark rulings that speech deemed offensive to many people, even the majority of people, cannot be suppressed by the government unless it is clearly directed to intimidate someone or amounts to an incitement to violence, legal experts said." (emphasis is mine)
I'm sorry, I may have missed some vital part of this whole thing wherein the completely pacifist and friendly intentions of this action were explained, but isn't this exactly what Jones is trying to do?
I really don't know what to say.

Date: 9/8/10 15:43 (UTC)...and I'm all "Well, let's see - perhaps when somebody asks you not to walk up to an innocent bystander and knee them in the balls in order to provoke a fight?" Because backing down? Is not what is being suggested. STOPPING BEING AN AGGRESSIVE SHITHEAD is what is being suggested.
What a twat.
And, dear God, I knew that the Pakistan disaster was huge, but that I had no idea that it had SUCH enormous scope. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Date: 9/11/10 09:37 (UTC)Well, you know, if you stop backing down and simply let people be, you might as well just roll over and play dead for them. Or bend over and take it, whichever. Point is, we're not weaklings who are gonna let themselves be conquered by this other religion/people/worldview. C'mon.
STOPPING BEING AN AGGRESSIVE SHITHEAD is what is being suggested.
I think he'd go into an identity crisis of some sort if he stopped being a disgusting creature. If he were to do this alone, out of his own issues, while not better exactly, it would still be just another crazy fucker, but he wants to stand in representation of an entire religion and that shit is just not gonna fly with me.
Re: Pakistan. I was taken aback too (seriously aback), it's like media has quieted down on it recently and so I lost perspective, and frankly, it slipped my mind. Fortunately, here's the internet being useful. You're welcome, btw.

Date: 9/11/10 09:37 (UTC)What bugs me (by bug, I mean it gets me into a frothing-at-the-mouth frenzy of rage) is how this asshole is trying to pass this off as though it were the unanimous opinion of Christendom. He stands for all of those who believe in God and have accepted Jesus as their lord and savior, the rest of the world is in the wrong and we're back to colonialist times where it's either conquer or be conquered. ::is angry::
Either way, there's people using their heads and their hearts and being generally awesome at the whole coexist thing and so, I remain hopeful. Hey, sorry about the library job, I have been keeping up with you but as I wrote above, I'VE ALSO BEEN SUCKING AT BEING IN THE INTERNET.
::tackle-hugs you::
