HOLY. SHIT.
I mean, crap just got serious, didn't it?
Morgana/Morgause, yeah. I approve. Also, Morgana has, like, agency and is getting around and is not a bundle of uncomprehending, overwhelmed, fearful nerves. Who smirks. And puts on richly colored cloaks to go sneak out of the castle like a boss.
HA!, she'll teach Merlin a thing or two. Also, um, Uther/Morgana has come back to me with a vengeance. It sort of slapped me across the face rather soundly. I also approve of this.
Gwen (whom, sometimes, is the entire reason I watch some episodes a second time, I must confess) was marvelous, which keeps on reminding me what a brilliant decision it was to get Angel Coulby to play her, otherwise we might have missed her the three times she was on screen. Although at least she was interacting with other characters and GAIUS WENT TO HER WHEN MERLIN WAS A NO-SHOW <3 x a million. She really does have the presence and the acting chops to make an impression even with one line and a half of dialogue. GWEN, YOU'RE STILL MY FAV, THE BEEB CAN SUCK IT.
Arthur. He broke my heart because in the same episode where we see him being laid back enough to tease Merlin and be teased back fraternally, completely lighthearted about it, where we see him vulnerable and caring about Morgana, playful with his father, we also see him face up to the fact that yes, he will have to carry the kingdom on hismile-wide shoulders one of these days and he's not ready for it. Which only made the previous scenes all the more poignant. And then he cried by his father's bedside because it's not just sitting in the throne, is losing his father as well, and this one hurts.
"I need him to be all right" (I think is what he said)
::is gutted::
Bradley, how do you rock so hard?
Merlin will learn stuff about choices and agency from Morgana, also HE GOT CAUGHT BEING CREEPY. Finally. And then he called the dragon like the mighty sorcerer he is. After using his mighty magic to silently mock Arthur, like the mighty little boy he is. <3. Why can't I stay mad at you, dude? ::blames Colin Morgan::
Uther is making me feel for him because he does have a heart apparently and it's all the fault of a seriously lacking emotional support system which was not in place when he needed it and now he doesn't know how to stop being a tyrant asshole because this is how the world is for him but that doesn't mean he's not happy the people he loves are around him safe and sound and there ::takes a breath:: and then shit befalls him, and even though he deserves it, it's still kind of cruel. I'm thinking we'll just see the vicious circle perpetuated. ASH, you're still a god among men and I love how you display stuff written to be ott, but remain all understated-like and curled up in a fetal position.
Anyway, it was generally awesome even though everything that happened seemed entirely dedicated to advancing the plot. If you squint (or pay attention) you'll see the itty bitty character moments.
Cenred can stay as long as he backs-and-forths it with Morgause some more.
NEXT WEEK, WHERE ARE YOU?

The less I see of her the more I WANT. It's a terrible cycle.

OH IT IS SO COLIN'S FAULT. I have so many problems with Merlin, but watching the show I forget EVERYTHING . LOL. He's definitely a top actor up there with Angel . . . altho he has the opposite thing, being in EVERY SCENE.
Uther is making me feel for him because he does have a heart apparently
OMG FINALLY SOMEONE WHO LIKES UTHER, even a little. I thought I was alone and delusional. He's a sympathetic character, for me at least, since somewhere in S2 . . . I mean the guy loves his family, his kids and he's trying to protect them the best he can.
Cenred can stay as long as he backs-and-forths it with Morgause some more.
Cenred & Morgause ♥ SO MUCH. They're replacing U/M for me . . . since I can't ship that anymore.
And a girl needs at least two ships that are Show supported.
And OMG don't talk to me about icons :P
Re: HE GOT CAUGHT BEING CREEPY - \o/
Date: 9/14/10 09:11 (UTC)The thing is, it would also become another cycle of epic proportions if we got more of her, ie: the more we get the more we want. At least in my case. Though I'd much prefer that particular dissatisfaction to the one we've got.
GWEN OWNS MY HEART AND I WOULD CHAMPION HER IF SHE DECIDED TO TAKE OVER CAMELOT HERSELF. ::true::
We're in danger of an overdose of Merlin. Sometimes I wonder, does Merlin really have to be in that scene? Or, you know, he's in chains somewhere else, hence his not being a part of this exchange... Still, he's really outstanding
just like Angeland for this I put up with him.OMG FINALLY SOMEONE WHO LIKES UTHER
I feel like if your going to find, say, Morgana sympathetic, you also would find Uther sympathetic if you look a little harder. He's mean and a right tyrant, but there's a heart to him, a devotion to his kingdom and a deep love for his children. Yes, he is effed up in many, many levels, he has messed things up severely (he drowned babies, ffs) but in a way he's this lonely man in the cusp of power dealing with his own guilt and grief, it's understandable he'd shutter himself off and sort of became rather entropic. It's not like he had a Merlin around, his Gwen was taken from him (however much he may be to blame for that one) and Gaius is also an act on shades himself so we don't really know what goes on there. /Uther apologist.
Hahahaha, I kind of ship U/M more now because I can so totally
fanficsee her putting some sort of spell on him to have him make her his queen, or something. Also the shades of WRONG just went through the roof and I can only be seriously kinky with these two for reasons unknown to me... BUT C/M is totally a new ship of mine, so much backstory to play with... And yes, I hear ya on the Show Supported Pairing (tm) thing, I DO NEED SOME VISUAL INPUT UPON WHICH TO BASE MY PERSONAL CANNON.no subject
